The Naval Reserve Building is an Art Moderne building completed in 1949 by John L Turner.  It is an example of Art Moderne architecture, exemplifying the curved corners, bay windows, and hard emphasis of the horizontal.  The front of the building, often referred to as marine modern, resembles the bow of the ship to hint at the building’s original program: a naval recruiting office.
